A Brief History Of Modern Homeschooling
July 9th, 2007Despite the fact that homeschooling has been around for hundreds of years, with many people quoting the example of Aristotle tutoring Alexander the Great at home over 2,500 years ago, homeschooling as we know it today was developed in the 1960s.
There were several people who were instrumental in the development of modern homeschooling, but probably the best known was John Holt. A teacher who became increasingly unhappy with the public school system and who attempted to alter if from within, John Holt wrote extensively on the subject of education and many of his books are still widely read and his ideas followed today.
