Folk Remedies

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

All of us are familiar with the allopathic form of medicine. Your doctor, who prescribes pills to rid you of your ills, is in all probability, an allopathic practitioner. A vast majority of the doctors in the world today are practitioners of allopathic medicine. In fact, a vast majority of individuals around the world know no other form of medicine than the allopathic way. But some of you may prefer to be treated under the homoeopathic genre. In this case, the pills are not bitter. In fact, they are sugar coated globules, which are coated with the extract of the medicine and have been proven to work. People who are allergic to allopathic medicines, or who have known reactions to allopathic courses of medicine use the homoeopathic form of treatment.

Apart from these two major forms of treatment, there also exist other widely practiced forms of medicine like Unani, Ayurvedic and acupuncture. Although a vast majority of Americans may be unfamiliar with these forms of medicine, they are proven and effective folk remedies, which have become a part and parcel of medicine worldwide. Care must be taken to differentiate folk remedies from faith healing, shamanic healing and other unscientific forms of treatment. These too are common in many cultures, but they are hardly scientific. Folk remedies on the other hand, are information rich remedies that have been passed down from generation to generation, in several cultures across the globe. While they may appear to be unscientific and even unhygienic, folk remedies are the result of intense research and development by our forefathers. These folk remedies are still used, with great beneficial results, in parts of the world like China and India. And unlike other traditional folk remedies, they continue to remain very much a part and parcel of everyday life.

The Benefits Of An Acupuncture Points Chart

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Acupuncture goes back a long way and it is all centered on the basis of certain points within the body. You must know what these points are and where they are located for acupuncture to help you. If you need to know the placement of the acupuncture points then you need an acupuncture points chart and you need to know how to read it properly. An acupuncture chart is a great way for a new acupuncture therapist to learn about the points and where they are located and it’s also good for someone who will be receiving acupuncture and just wants to know how it works.

Acupuncture is an ancient form of medicine in which certain points on the body are used as treatment for other complications or pains within the body. There are literally hundreds of acupuncture points on the body, located on various meridians from head to toe. It can be difficult to keep up with all of these points and an acupuncture points chart can help you do this. You should never try to perform acupuncture on yourself when you are not qualified to do so but many people just enjoy knowing where the certain points are and how they work so they can better understand their treatment.

Number of students without health insurance increasing

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

It is astonishing to hear how many young people and students nowadays don’t have a health insurance. This is mainly due to the fact that the prices for health insurance are very high and that the burden of paying for a health insurance is more and more shifted from the employer to the employee. Usually young adults are covered under a so-called family health insurance with their parents but often get kicked off after they graduate from college. After that a health insurance is often simply too expensive for the students to pay.

A lot of them believe that they won’t get sick anyway, but in case they do treatment costs e.g. surgeries are most of the time even more expensive. Therefore, having health coverage really pays off.

For full-time students there are special programs called student health plans that are either offered by the school or insurance companies. There are also short-term health plans which last from 1 to 12 months and are intended to be used by people who are for instance no longer in their parent’s health insurance scheme, but neither covered by the insurance of their future employer yet. With short-term insurance you can bridge these periods where you are without insurance. Of course, there are many other health insurance schemes available, too. Information about them can be obtained at the United States Department of Health and Human Services.

It is really advisable for all students to join such a student health plan to be covered at least partly in case of an unforeseen surgery or other medical treatment that might be necessary. Your health is definitely the wrong place to safe money!

Central Iowa beef consumption causing health problems

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

It seems the health of the citizens of Iowa is affecting central Iowa tourism. As the population ages in this state more and more people are having heart problems that keep them at home for long periods of time. These elderly people are the ones with the most free time and as such are a large part of the tourism industry. The health conditions are not causing them to stay home but is also eating away at their finances therefore not allowing them to spend the money needed to go out and enjoy the sights and sounds of different parts of the state. The older citizens idea of a vacation usually includes finding a fine place to eat and with the restricted diets mandated by the illness even this part of the tourism is suffering. The increase in heart disease is tentatively being linked to the large consumption of beef by the local residents. The fat in the beef is believed to increase the amount of cholesterol in the blood thus restricting blood flow causing the heart to have to work harder. This problem is being addressed by the beef producers as they are now breeding cattle that are more lean than in years past.
