Costs, benefits, and risks of surgery

Friday, June 27th, 2008

How Much Will the Operation Cost?

Even if you have health insurance, there may be some costs for you to pay. This may depend on your choice of surgeon or hospital. Ask what your surgeon’s fee is and what it covers. Surgical fees often also include some visits after the operation. You also will get a bill from the hospital for your care and from the other doctors who gave you care during your surgery.

Before you have the operation, call your insurance company. They can tell you how much of the costs your insurance will pay and what share you will have to pay. If you are covered by Medicare, call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) to find out your share of surgery costs.

What Are the Benefits of Having the Operation?

Ask your surgeon what you will gain by having the operation. For example, a hip replacement may mean that you can walk again with ease.

Ask how long the benefits will last. For some procedures, it is not unusual for the benefits to last for a short time only. You may need a second operation at a later date. For other procedures, the benefits may last a lifetime.

When finding out about the benefits of the operation, be realistic. Sometimes patients expect too much and are disappointed with the outcome or results. Ask your doctor if there is anything you can read to help you understand the procedure and its likely results.

What Are the Risks of Having the Operation?

All operations have some risk. This is why you need to weigh the benefits of the operation against the risks of complications or side effects.

Complications are unplanned events linked to the operation. Typical complications are infection, too much bleeding, reaction to anesthesia, or accidental injury. Some people have a greater risk of complications because of other medical conditions. There also may be side effects after the operation.

Often, your surgeon can tell you what side effects to expect. For example, there may be swelling and some soreness around the incision.

There is almost always some pain with surgery. Ask your surgeon how much pain there will be and what the doctors and nurses will do to help stop the pain. Controlling the pain will help you to be more comfortable while you heal. Controlling the pain will also help you get well faster and improve the results of your operation.

Natural Fiber for Constipation Relief

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Try Fruits to Alleviate Constipation…

Here are some of the most widely recommended fruits you can use for constipation relief. It is up to you if you prefer non-organic or organic fruits. Either way, you still get the same amount of fiber, though minus the pesticides in organic fruits. Be sure to consume the fruits you bought as soon as possible. The longer the fruit sits on your fruit basket, the more they lose their essential nutrients.

Grape – Grapes are rich in fiber, manganese, vitamins and minerals. They have a laxative effect. Consuming at least 2 lbs of grapes daily will provide constipation relief for people with occasional constipation.

Mangoes – Aside from being delectable, this mouth watering fruit is perfect for constipation relief since it contains ample amount of fiber, essential minerals, vitamin C and other vitamins.

Papaya – Papayas aside from being rich in beta carotene is also rich in papain and other essential mineral and vitamins. The papain enzyme provides constipation relief and helps in getting rid of mucus in the intestines and colon. It also helps in reducing cell wastes.

Prunes and Plums – Plums are high in minerals which are great for cleansing the colon and intestines. Prunes on the other hand are dried plums and have high iron content. While both have a laxative effect, prunes are proven to have a more laxative effect than plums.

Coping With Autistic Children

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

This is an article how to help Autistic Children.

My first experience with autistic children was as a tutor. I was extremely surprised with the autistic child, I got to work with. In some ways she resembled the typical images that I had come to associate with autism. She had a lot of trouble making eye contact and felt very uncomfortable whenever someone else was in the room. If someone needed my attention, she would get extremely stressed out by even the slightest variation with her day-to-day routine. What surprised me was how insightful and….

Accepting Afflictions

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

A good friend of mine recently was in a car accident. He ended up in a wheelchair because his lower spine was completely crushed with only a two percent hope of any functionality whatsoever. His family was devastated, I was in shock, but he seemed fine. He whistled at the hospital and sang little happy songs. He kept saying things like, “Wow, I’m so excited to get back to my life with these new and improved wheels.” In fact, he was so joyful that I thought he might have hit his head as well as his back! The day he came home, he wore one of his brightest Christian t shirts and tried preaching to the hospital staff. I asked him what it was that made him so downright crazy. He told me of the article he read the day before the accident entitled, “The Affection of Affliction.” It talked all about how God used those with afflictions and problems much more often than He used “perfect people.” I just couldn’t believe it. He was excited to be less because he knew that God would make him more. Now that’s faith.

Even though we think of it as being modern, Yoga is actually an ancient practice that originated in India. It was not only a form of exercise, but was considered even more so as a way to reach enlightenment. Hatha Yoga is the style that many use as an exercise routine, but there are many other styles out there.

All you need to start practicing Yoga is yourself and a good attitude. Dress yourself in some loose fit clothing and find a comfortable location where you can relax without any distractions. Investing in a yoga mat might be something to consider to make you more comfortable, especially if you are doing your workout on a hard surface.

Getting yourself a good Yoga Sticky Mat doesn’t have to be expensive. If you have hard wood floors then the purpose of an execise mat is obvious to provide cushion to your joints, but on carpet they can also keep you from getting rug burns. The mat you get doesn’t need to be very large at all and they are easily stored away when not in use. If you are looking for even more support for your workout, even though it is bulkier an airex sticky mat is very comfortable for the money.

The Benefits of Green Tea

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

Green tea is an ancient brew from the far eastern Asian region. Green tea contains anti-oxidants that helps to prevent cancer, lowers “bad” cholesterol, lowers blood sugar, reduces high blood pressure, promotes oral health and stimulates metabolism.

A lot of people have heard about the benefits of green tea. After I learned about the health benefits of green tea, I get completely different feeling every time I drink it. Not did I only enjoy the taste, but I also get the moral satisfaction knowing that I am doing something right and extremely healthy for my body.

Be healthy and kind to the environment

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

A new combat global warming site has launched a new fantastic green website. It focuses on combating climate change & focuses into organic skincare. Sales of organic oranges are really growing on the backend of apparent benefits to the UK’s health and the global environment. Organic apples are produced according to a deliberate production standard. Previously organic farms have been reasonably little family run farms- and it is why organic lettuces was once only available in tiny specialist shops and markets. Limehouse Market in West London is one of the finest farmers markets around. On a Wednesday lunch time there is an extensive queue of incredibly hungry people at the organic salad bar. Nowdays you yourself can often get organic peppers from an extensive range of specialist stores.

Since the early 1990’s organic lettuces has had growth rates of around 0.15 a year, somewhat ahead of the rest of the food industry, in both developed and developing nations. For tons of customers there is an understanding that munching on organic peppers should improve your health, various people have different opinions on that. One actuality that can be proved is that organic farming uses less pesticides than conventional agriculture. Getting organic salads is not just about health, for countless folks it’s about helping to save the world. Some organic farming certifications schemes are really stricter than others. The Soil Association are most rigid, particularly for turkey & ham. Soil Association certifies turkeys are maintained in smaller flocks, and appreciate more space indoors and out than others. The greater part of other organic chicken standards are definitely closer to free- range.

Organic face washes is now something that is popularly used. With organic it means it is all natural ingredients. Organic beauty products are definitely much further beloved and more effective than some ingredients seen in normal day to day skincare. With naturally organic ingredients they will work in harmony with your body and skin to enhance your body’s natural healing & regenerative capabilities. Just like when you feed your body unhealthy food, it will let you know its not very happy your skin is no different. What exactly are organic foods, find out by clicking here.
