American Tinnitus Association - Actively Searching for a Cure for Tinnitus

Being the largest organization of its kind, The American Tinnitus Association is striving to do research that will enable them to find a cure. Scientists have done tremendous amounts of research on tinnitus, including studying the treatments and causes. American Tinnitus Association supports research for tinnitus because helping people overcome the disease is their number one priority.
In hopes of quickly finding a cure for tinnitus; they not only find the best researchers available, they also provide the needed funding for the research. More than $4 million dollars in research grants have been given since 1980 by the American Tinnitus Association; of these $600,000 were awarded just in 2008. They also have supported research into the causes and treatments of tinnitus
What are some differences that the ATA has brought about?
One of the ways in which scientists that have been working together with the American Tinnitus Association have gone about to find a solution for tinnitus is through determining what new information is necessary. They have created what they term a ‘roadmap’. In order to make a “roadmap”, scientists put together a list of each detail that has already been discovered about tinnitus. They then determine what more information is needed in the search for a cure.
This may require a lot of research and can be a lenghty process. On the other hand, each new piece of knowledge about tinnitus brings researchers a bit closer to a lasting cure. A lot of the research being conducted pertains to the study of real patients who must deal with the condition each day.
Worldwide, tinnitus disrupts the lives of millions of people.  Not everyone is lucky enough that their cases are mild and only recognized at night. For many people, the ringing sounds that come from tinnitus make it impossible for them to hear normally or live life like most of us.
The American Tinnitus Association is searching for a cure for everyone that suffers. ATA supports and funds such research so that these people can be relieved of their pain and can live normal lives as soon as possible.
