April 16th, 2008Today, we are in contact with more people from around the globe than ever before. The world is shrinking, due to inventions like the jet engine. You can travel thousands of miles, unaware that you may have a silent companion, a virus or disease, which upon landing at your destination could spread like wildfire. Infectious diseases are on the rise. Bacteria and viruses are mutating more quickly these days, and some serious strains are building immunity to antibiotics. Old favourites like tuberculosis, malaria and polio are now making a comeback. There are also new diseases, like avian flu and mad cow disease that are breaking out in unexpected places……..
