Traumatic Brain Injury and Hope
November 10th, 2008Reports indicate that roughly half of patients with traumatic brain injury need surgery to remove ruptured blood vessels (haematomas) or damaged brain tissue (contusions). The disabilities resulting from traumatic brain injury can be overwhelming, simply because the brain controls so much of everyone’s life. The senses may become impaired, communication may become difficult and in severe cases even impossible. Depression may occur, and there may be personality changes.
But one thing to do is to always have hope. Doctors can work wonders, but so can the body itself, and being given even a tiny amount of hope may be all a person needs to persevere in overcoming some of the symptoms of traumatic brain injury.
