An excerpt of an article about Causes of Sciatic Pain
Sciatic pain is chiefly due to inflammation of the sciatic nerve. This condition usually gives you pain from the lower back down to your knee. You can also feel tenderness in your leg and thigh. There are several causes of sciatic pain, and these should be carefully assessed to apply proper treatment.
When the nerve root found in the lower lumbar spine and lumbosacral area is irritated, compressed, or inflamed, sciatic pain results. Among the prevalent causes of sciatic pain include:
-Lumbar spinal stenosis - constriction of the lower spinal canal
-Degenerative disk disorders causing the vertebral disks to collapse
-Herniated or slipped disk in the lumbar area
-Spondylolisthesis - forward displacement of a vertebra
Lumbar herniated/slipped disk occurs when the disk’s nucleus pulposus extrudes through the annulus. Other terms for this condition include protruding disk, ruptured disk, bulging disk or pinched nerve. This condition is usually manifested by sciatic pain.
In lumbar spinal stenosis, the spinal canal in the lumbar area is constricted leading to sciatic pain. This medical condition affects mostly elderly people over 60 years old. This is generally due to soft tissue overgrowth, engorged joints, and swollen disks which apply pressure on the sciatic nerve roots.

There is a lot of talk today about the importance of getting enough Omega-3 in order to improve our cardiovascular health. Although Omega-3 is found in fish, you would have to consume it in rather large quantities in order to get the same amount you obtain from daily fish oil supplements.
I am not a big fan of seafood beyond that of cod, haddock, and salmon, so obviously it means I have to take fish oil supplements in order to obtain the benefits of the Omega-3. But I’m willing to do this since it’s important at my age to look closely at my cardiovascular health in order to assure a long and productive life.

Now I mentioned before that this form of arthritis also begins to progress. As this disease begins to progress it will then begin to affect other joints such as your shoulders, knees, elbows, hips, jaw and even your neck. Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms can vary in their severity and also come and go. At this point doctor’s are unsure of the actual reason for acquiring this disease but it is believed that it does run in families.

Looking for a gout symptom? If you have a family history of the disease, you probably should be. According to several scientific research outlets, more than eighteen percent of people who reported that they had gout had a family history of it. As genetic research continues in our society, we are able to understand how genetics can play a serious role in things like developing a gout symptom. Because some people simply have weaker organs, including kidneys, than other people, that seems to get passed from family member to family member.

The most common symptom of arthritis is joint pain (arthralgia). To begin with, arthralgia may be slow and the patient may experience trouble climbing stairs. It may be intermittent, instantly disappearing after intake of analgesic agents or even without treatment, just by rest. One may experience paresthesia and joint stiffness. One may also hear a cracking sound while walking. Often, joints become swollen and inflamed. Paresthesia is usually felt at night or in the morning and is generally aggravated during exposure to cold, wind or rain and most especially during winter.

A good friend of mine recently was in a car accident. He ended up in a wheelchair because his lower spine was completely crushed with only a two percent hope of any functionality whatsoever. His family was devastated, I was in shock, but he seemed fine. He whistled at the hospital and sang little happy songs. He kept saying things like, “Wow, I’m so excited to get back to my life with these new and improved wheels.” In fact, he was so joyful that I thought he might have hit his head as well as his back! The day he came home, he wore one of his brightest Christian t shirts and tried preaching to the hospital staff. I asked him what it was that made him so downright crazy. He told me of the article he read the day before the accident entitled, “The Affection of Affliction.” It talked all about how God used those with afflictions and problems much more often than He used “perfect people.” I just couldn’t believe it. He was excited to be less because he knew that God would make him more. Now that’s faith.

Hip arthritis
is without doubt one of the most common forms of arthritis- which can have many different causes. There is one factor in common however- this is loss of cartilage from the hip joint. The loss of cartilage results in the hip bones grinding unnaturally together, resulting in pain. Hip arthritis advances quite quickly once it sets in, and pain and treatment options vary greatly depending on the patient’s age, health and lifestyle.

Hip pain is a common discomfort people have, it does not let you feel comfortably either when you are awake or when it is time to sleep. But in order to understand this pain, why it happens and how we can obtain hip pain relief, we have to know how the hips work. A joint is formed by the ends of at least two bones that are connected by ligaments. The hip consists of two parts: a ball or femoral head at the top of the femur, and a rounded socket or acetabulum in the pelvis. The surfaces of the ball and socket are covered by a material called articular cartilage, which cushions the bones and allows them move easily.
