Lower Cholesterol Foods To Eat

December 17th, 2011

Lower cholesterol foods, which forms the basis for a low cholesterol diet, is good for the heart. For those not in the know, low cholesterol foods include vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes. The others are lean meat, fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids, poultry, and low-fat dairy products. Many people worry about following such a diet because they thought they have to give up desserts and snacks.

Those at risk of being hypertensive must consume lots of lower cholesterol foods to reduce the amount of lower density lipoproteins (LDL). If LDL’s are allowed to proliferate unabated, they could lead to the plagues within arteries, meaning the arteries are clogged.

The thing is that should you plan to give lower cholesterol foods diet a try, you need to change your lifestyle, exercise regularly, and embrace a positive mental attitude.

The Truth About Good Cholesterol

October 11th, 2011

What Is Good Cholesterol?

Many people believe that all fats are bad or that all fat is the same.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. Fats come in all kinds of forms – monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats – the kind found in peanuts, olive oil and avocados for instance, are actually good for you in the way they lower bad cholesterol.

Trans fats and saturated fats, the kind that you find in butter, red meat, bacon, french fries and all kinds of processed foods, can really hurt you and you would be right to steer well clear of foods that contain any of these things in them.

Cholesterol is the same, in that there are bad types and good types. For instance HDL or High density lipo proteins can actually help to lower overall cholesterl levels but many people just don’t what is good cholesterol and what is bad.

Try Lowering Cholesterol Naturally With Exercise And A High Fiber Diet

October 6th, 2011

A new study of members of the American Association of Retired People followed 20 years of these people’s lives and their health. The study showed that those who eat a high fiber diet have lower cholesterol because of it there could be a number of reasons for this including that they aren’t eating as many high fat and cholesterol foods because they’re eating more high fiber foods. In addition, it could be that the fiber, which is a natural constipation relief source, is also flushing out a lot of those fat and cholesterol deposits, making the overall body healthier.

If you are trying to battle unhealthy cholesterol levels, there are all kinds of drugs that could help you. Nevertheless, if your cholesterol numbers aren’t that high, you could conceivably stay away from medications for this and try lowering cholesterol naturally, with exercise, diet control and dietary supplements that help your efforts along. Here’s a quick rundown of the most popular natural supplements that help you fight high cholesterol.

Artichoke leaf extract (Cynara scolymus) tends to be quite popular in the dietary supplement stores. There have only been two serious scientific studies done on the abilities of artichoke leaf extract in lowering cholesterol naturally. In one study, they find that people in the high risk range who go on artichoke leaf extract for one and a half months succeed in dropping their levels of bad cholesterol by about 25%. The other study though, contradicts what the first study finds. Artichoke leaf extract though, happens to be a popular choice to try.

How To Lower Cholesterol Just On The Strength Of Supplements

September 25th, 2011

The best way to do this is by exercising regularly. Though doctors aren’t 100 percent sure what the connection is, current thinking suggests that exercise helps jump start the enzymes responsible for moving low-density lipoprotein (LDL) from your bloodstream to your liver, where it is subsequently turned into bile and excreted.

If exercise and a better diet aren’t helping on how to lower your cholesterol significantly enough, you can try taking some supplements as well. So the more you exercise, the more stimulation those critical enzymes receive, and the lower your cholesterol becomes.

There are various herbal supplements on the market that are said to have a positive effect on LDL. Although these claims are not approved or endorsed by the FDA, many people have reported success with ingredients like garlic, turmeric, red yeast rice, artichoke leaf extract, and other herbs.

In addition, fish oil supplements with EPA and DHA are widely regarded as effective products that can help lower your cholesterol.

Every parent needs to help their children in the fight against unhealthy weight

September 6th, 2011

Landscape designing is something that has always been on my mind. Seeing that Matthew needed a better place to play from so that we could avoid any weight problems that seemed to be developing in his older brother Marcus, I searched the web for a landscape design that would suit our compound as well as add beauty to it. My course of action was given a bigger drive after reading an article about obesity among children. Here it is and I can only hope that it causes you to do something healthy for your child.

There has been a steady increase in childhood obesity in the United States and it continues to baffle and confound professionals of every stripe. It certainly doesn’t help that large amounts of high fructose corn syrup are found in pretty much everything sold in the United States. But that can keep for another time. Obese children sometimes seem like they’ve never had an honest chance at life and this feels like a sad testimony about our culture. These kids are already suffering the numerous consequences from arthritis and constant joint and back pain to Type II diabetes and the worst verbal treatment by their class peers. This is a sad state of affairs and we’ll explore it further in this article.

It seems that just about all physical areas of the human body are severely stressed by obesity. When it comes to the respiratory system, obese children are prone to potentially dangerous obstructive sleep apnea due to being overweight. If a child is obese then they may also have problems with normal breathing.

Asthma can be developed if a child or young adult is overweight. If you have a problem with your normal breathing process, it may also be referred to as an exercise intolerance. Everyone has seen that obese people always seem to have trouble breathing. This is a natural response because the body is having to work harder. This merely sets the stage for increased stress on the entire cardiovascular system, as well. Worldwide medical research has confirmed that obstructive sleep apnea is more common in obese children. This particular condition is especially dangerous because it causes the child’s airway to become blocked while he or she is sleeping. Kids who are overweight and obese are more likely to develop snoring problems but that’s a deceiving piece of data, according to researchers. The reason for this snoring is sometimes OSA, obstructive sleep apnea. It is possible that having an adenotonsillectomy will help children and teens who are obese deal with this problem.

Science is still trying to puzzle out whether or not early onset obesity has a direct relationship with early onset puberty. However, there’s a particular amount of common sense to be had in looking at what we know. For example, we already know that obese kids and teens see puberty set in earlier and grow faster than other kids. This still, though, requires a clearer determination of causality than currently exists. While this is obviously not a really serious threat to the health of obesity related conditions there are definitely issues that can be related to the early onset of puberty.

These children need to lose this weight so we think that it is a good idea for them to have an emergency plan of action. Of course we realize there are millions of unique situations with these children. Although this situation has avoided being reversed, it is very serious.

Seeing what danger Marcus was in and making sure that Matthew does not get into it, I decided to divert the money I was going to use to buy TV stands for their room television sets to buying groceries. I knew that this was going to hurt them but it would be the start of them eating healthy thus fighting off the unhealthy weight.

Cholesterol, what a nuisance

August 23rd, 2011

I went for a blood test three days ago and just got the results back. Everything is fine except one – my cholesterol level is slightly more than the permissible limit. It seems that this problem is genetically linked because both my parents and two siblings also have high cholesterol levels. No wonder my sister was pouring over the Internet recently looking for ways to lowering cholesterol without medication. She later told me that one blogger swore on high fibre diet food while another talked solely about exercise. Cholesterol, whether you like it or not, seems to be inflicting everyone, no wonder blood testing centers are doing brisk business because if you don’t watch your cholesterol level, all kinds of health issues, including heart diseases and stroke, might come knocking one day. In short, ignore cholesterol at your own peril.

Coronary Artery Disease

July 21st, 2011

The higher the cholesterol, the greater the risk coronary artery disease . A very low level of cholesterol doesn’t carry any risk by itself.

While we don’t have all the answers, it’s best to take a prudent course: be familiar with the cholesterol and saturated-fat content of foods and apply this knowledge to your food choices.

Fats are a group of various highly concentrated substances that don’t mix with water. Dietary fats are carriers for fat-soluble vitamins. If there were no fat in the diet, it could eventually lead to a vitamin deficiency. Some fats are crucial for maintaining the structure of each cell in your body and producing hormones. While fats are essential to good nutrition, they are beneficial only when you consume certain types in limited amounts.

Be watchful of your diet. Keep your cholesterol at proper levels. Stay active and live a good life.

Reduce LDL Cholesterol With Tomatoes

May 21st, 2011

A recent study published by the University of Adelaide has shown that ordinary tomatoes may be an effective alternative to medication for lowering cholesterol and blood pressure, and thus helping to prevent cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Karin Ried and her colleague Dr. Peter Fakler have discovered that tomatoes have antioxidant properties that are vital to good health.

They are the first to summarize the effect of lycopene (also found in watermelons and pink grapefruit) on cholesterol and blood pressure, by analyzing the collective results of 14 studies in the last 55 years.

“Our study suggests that if more than 25 milligrams of lycopene is taken daily, it can reduce LDL-cholesterol by up to 10%,” Dr. Ried says.

Tomatoes in particular have high levels of lycopene, with half a liter of tomato juice taken daily, or 50 grams of tomato paste, providing protection against heart disease.
