Ten Things You Should Never Do To Your Skin
Friday, January 27th, 2012
When it comes to your skin, there are very definitely things that you should do to keep it strong and supple, but there are also things that you should avoid at all costs; things that can cause your skin to become tough and inflexible and which can promote the signs of early aging.
- Smoking. Smoking is a big no-no if you want healthy and young looking skin. Every time you take a puff you ingest chemicals and toxins along with the nicotine; chemicals and toxins that impregnate your skin and which can inhibit the rejuvenation of your skins epidermal layers, resulting in coarse, tough skin.
- Hard drugs. Hard drugs are in the same line as nicotine in that they let toxins and chemicals that should never have been allowed into your body into your bloodstream. Doing hard drugs can result in skin that is sallow and unhealthy looking over time.
- Laser Hair Removal. There is a great deal of debate over whether laser hair removal is safe or not. The bare facts are that no one yet knows just what the long term effects of laser hair removal might be, especially when it comes to the condition of the skin. As it is, laser hair removal treatments can result in burns and puffiness that can take hours and sometimes days to get rid of. There is also speculation that it could possibly affect the inner layers of the skin doing damage that is not yet understood.
- Salon Tanning. Salon Tanning is another no-no when it comes to caring for your skin. While the warmed, bronzed look of someone who has been out in the sun all day is a very desirable look, the process of getting that look through artificial means can dry out the skin and do damage on the deep levels of tissues.
- Over-Exposure to Sun. Everyone needs vitamin D. But it only takes 10 continuous minutes of sun exposure a day to induce the production of vitamin D. Instead of basting yourself for hours and risking sunburns, try using an 8 SPF sun tan lotion and lying out for no more than 10-20 minutes at a time.
- Windburn. Windburn can be severely damaging to the skin. When in windy situations such as downhill skiing or boating, be sure to protect your face.
- Chemical Peels. The chemicals used in chemical peels do the trick, but the harshness of the chemicals can also cause long term damage to the inner layers of skin cells and subcutaneous fat, especially if indulged in regularly.
- Shaving with 4-in-1 Razors. The ultra-smooth-shave razors may give you too close of a shave causing nicks and scratches that are completely unnecessary in an attempt to get the closest shave ever. If you really need that close of a shave, consider a waxing.
- Popping Pimples or Zits. Popping pimples or zits does not ‘cure’ them. The problem is far deeper down than the contents of the head of the pimple or zit. Instead, dry it out. Use topical creams or acne products like ClearPores Acne Treatment and keep the skin around it clean. It will disappear on its own.
- Over-Cleaning. Over-cleaning your face or over exfoliating can cause damage to the skin tissues as well as to the capillaries and blood vessels that run beneath the surface of your face’s skin.
By avoiding these ten potentially harmful things, you too can ensure that you have the best looking skin possible and can avoid the early signs of aging for as long as possible. Make sure that you look after your skin, avoid the acne myths and take the time to look after your wellbeing.
